What are the difference between EC2 and ETAG?
Another difference is the legal standpoint of the two documents. EC2 as part of the Eurocodes is a mandatory document which has high awareness and enforcement in the market. However, ETAG is classified as guideline which provide information and there is limited awareness and enforcement in the market.
Required verification for post-installed fasteners in tension & shear [EN1992-4]
In terms of failure modes, there are a few differences between ETAG and EN1992-4. We will elaborate more on a few required verification stated in EC2-4, such as concrete cone failure, combined pull-out and concrete failure and steel failure of fastener with lever arm.
Concrete Strength: EC2-4 using cylindric instead of cubic strength
One of the differences is in the concrete strength used for calculation. In EC2, cylindric strength is used instead of cubic strength in ETAG001. As cylindric strength is lower than the strength in ETAG001, the resistance of some concrete relevant failure mode in EC2 is lower than that in ETAG001.
Compression force result from bending moment is taken into account for concrete cone failure
Another difference is in the calculation in concrete cone failure. When bending moment is applied to the connection, the resultant compression force on one side of the plate can push back the concrete cone. ETAG does not considered this effect while a influencing factor is added in EC2. The minimum value of the factor is 1, therefore it will bring a positive impact on the concrete cone resistance.
